Sounds on Sunday (12)

Good morning – some more new sounds for you this week. Let me know what you think, in the comments below. Please also add links to any new sounds you’d like to share. Thanks to all contributors!

Candy Cigarettes – My 45 – “My name is Lane Mueller and I record under the moniker of Candy Cigarettes. I am from Portland, Oregon and Candy Cigarettes is my one-man indie rock/nightmare pop project. I just released the music video for my debut single “MY 45” and thought you may want to check it out.”

Chey – Dirty Love – Debut single from talented Welsh artist, Chey. “Produced by top London producer David Ezra, who has worked with X Factor finalists ‘Reggie and Bollie’ … David says “I loved Chey’s voice and I was looking forward to working with her on the new single, I brought in Shakil Hussain, a songwriter also from London to join us and within a day we had written and recorded Dirty Love.”

Montana B – Take U Home (Feat. Jay Felicite) – From her first EP, “Alpha”, Montana B. is a hip-hop artist from London. She is part Italian and part Nigerian, and draws on influences from both cultures and has played at venues around London including The Roundhouse and Nambucca.

Rainbrother – Break Out – First single from the band, and you can pre-order their first LP on They’re playing UK dates 22nd Feb 2017 – Paper Dress Vintage – London; 23 Feb 2017 Castle Hotel – Manchester; 24th Feb 2017, The Glad Café – Glasgow. My favourite this week.

Kiara Nelson – Bulletproof – “Helsinki based Kiara Nelson has previously released only one song, but is already building quite a name for herself. She hit a home run with her debut single “Cool My Rush” earlier this year, earning loads of love from the music media in both her native Finland and around the world, and drawing comparisons to the likes of Dua Lipa and Zara Larsson. Now the 18-year old rising star is back with “Bulletproof”, another slice of confident electro-pop.”

Fond of Rudy – Say Something – Indie-pop 4-piece band, this is the second single from their forthcoming EP “TWO”. “Expect a blend of dance and 80s-esque to be infused in your ear.”

Delafaye – Time and Money – “The moniker of Andrew Shockley, Delafaye, recorded and produced ‘Time And Money’ by himself at home on a 32-track recorder and computer in a small apartment over an art studio next to a bar called the hilltop tavern in Louisville, Kentucky, which is where he is from. It’s the second single to be taken from new forthcoming debut EP ‘The Hilltop’, which will be released on new London based label Street Mission Records (distributed through [PIAS]) on January 27th 2017.”

Johnny Pants – New Bugs – From Connecticut – link to song: “New Bugs”  Genres: Indie Pop, New Wave, Shoegaze, Lo-fi. “After taking a step back, I sorta realized the production of “New Bugs” is that scene from “Batman” (1989). You know the one–Jack Nicholson is dancing around the art museum, bumping Prince, and painting over Renaissance pieces. Everything was gaudy Joker pop art. Well, it seems, I got a little manic with those ruby lips.”

Sally B – Timely Guy – “We are Sally B, a folk band from Paris. (Here is) our new song “Timely Guy” along with its minimal little video. Ricky Damian, the sound engineer who worked with us on this song and our EP to come, is the 2015 Grammy Award winner for Bruno Mars Uptown Funk.”

  1. My favourites this week were Candy Cigarettes and Rainbrother, I liked the Chey single too but it did really remind me of Portishead. I think I may have heard Montana B on Radio 4’s Women’s Hour. Quite liked but I think I would have preferred with an unadorned/untreated vocal. Yes I know I sound like a fogy.
