  1. To go with the above playlist and afictionhabit’s musings on women in country music and her Anna Meredith post, I thought I’d add a playlist of the female artists and female fronted bands at Flow Festival this year. (I make always make festival playlists but this is a bit earlier than normal.)

There’s a fair selection of dance, electronica, world, and acoustic styling in there and lots of provocative lyrics. Last year FKA Twigs, Anna von Hausswolff, Savages and Sia all headlined (not sure most people think who go to Flow think of headliners in the way that the artists would).

Anyway, there’s lots of current sounds in the list and that pleases me. Btw Ilmiö and the Saturday line-up at Pori Jazz (Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Daymé Arocena) are pretty unconcerned about whether the headliner is male or female and that’s how it should be.

Playlist starts with song no. 8. Can’t wait to see that lot play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO769KQ_skE&index=8&list=PLwmnm6S9mz77lIHyzMdupPwpOYGvqkTzu

  2. I literally cannot keep up with all the playlists!!! I’ve only just finished listening to the femtronica vs mentronica one and the album Carole reviewed yesterday. *fires up YouTube*

    • This is the last for a long time, I promise. 😉 Had to do these before I start working on that new job… Time is tight. The final third gets weirder or better depending on how stressed you are. 😀

      • That doesn’t seem to be as much a clue as an eiderdown quilt to settle under with good music playing and a good book to read, not to mention the red wine close to hand. (Hmmm! Still in winter mode.)

    • Oh wow! Thanks for this Not had chance to listen to this until now but after two minutes I know this is my next purchase. She’s even incorporated the video game sounds Fatima Al Qadiri uses so well. Love it. I wonder what Jlin, Holly Herndon and Anna Meredith would come up with if they collaborated? Cheers.

      • You’re welcome! the NPR electronic/dance site does some very good “first listens”, the new Carl Craig is also worth hearing, just bought that.
