Earworms, Christmas Day 2017

I’ve been trying to think of something profound to say, but the best I can manage is:”Merry Christmas! Have a wonderful holiday! Enjoy the music!” If you have an Earworm you’d like to share, please send an .mp3 or a link to earworm@tincanland.com,along with a few lines about why you’ve chosen it. The next set of worms will appear on New Year’s Day, so let’s try a theme – send me some music to inspire us all to new beginnings. TTFN.

Dinah Washington – Ole Santa – goneforeign: Dinah – self-titled “Queen of the blues”.

Eartha Kitt – Santa Baby – goneforeign: We’ve had this before, but it’s a great song and GF has sent an interesting article from the LA Times, about the nonagenarian writer.

Eleven & Chris Cornell – Ave Maria – DsD: One of 2017’s saddest losses … nothing else to say. :o(

Ella Fitzgerald – Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – goneforeign: “Queen of Jazz”.

James Brown – Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto / Tit For Tat – Ravi Raman: from his Funky Christmas set. There were other, more cheerful tracks but these are my favourites.

James Brown – Please Come Home For Christmas – goneforeign

John Prine – Christmas in Prison – Ravi Raman: a more sombre song but one of my regular noms this year.

Kate Rusby – Here We Come A Wassailing / The Holly And The Ivy – AliM: Just thought I’d share two little slices of Christmas Kate with you.

King Creosote – O Holy Night – DsD: Because Kenny can soothe my soul like few other voices can.

Mac McCaughan – Happy New Year (Prince Can’t Die Again) – Panthersan: Seasons greetings from Japan!

Marianne Sveen – Let it Snow / Silver Bells – severin: Norwegian composer, producer, singer and songwriter, formerly a member of Katzenjammer.

Nina Simone – I Am Blessed – Ravi Raman: not entirely sure that it’s about Christmas but any excuse to listen to Ms Simone.

Over the Rhine – Let It Fall – glassarfemptee: It’s been a mad, bad, sad year. We need to let our cares all fall, like snow. Hope springs eternal…

Rosetta Tharpe – Oh Little Town – goneforeign: Soulful mix of spiritual lyrics and rhythm.

Vintage Trouble – Santa Why – DsD: Came as a freebie download to those on their mailing list. It’s a bit odd, mood-wise.

Bob Dylan – ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas – goneforeign

  1. Ms. Santa Ali has left a big bag of lovely gifts I see! I like this theme type of Earworms. Let me see what I can come up with, if any.
Thanks for the interesting read GF.
Merry Christmas and here’s wishing 2018 is full of health, wealth and happiness.

  2. Happy Christmas and many thanks, to you Ali and all contributors, and to ‘Spillers everywhere. These look good to help with the washing up later… xx

  3. Merry Christmas to ‘Spillers everywhere. I didn’t send anything in, I forgot, but if I had it would have been Ella singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, or maybe Clarence Carter with “Back Door Santa”.

  4. Haven’t yet found time for a listen, but happy Xmas to all wormers, and especially the curator, Ali, for finding good homes for all our worms.
