My latest post-jazz post features a French based, Korean singer whose new album is doing well in the French jazz charts (though it received a lukewarm reception in the Guardian).
It’s de rigueur for post-jazz artists to cover grunge or metal hits, and I think Youn Sun Nah delivers one of the best recent efforts, stripping this song back to its skeleton to focus on the quite decently creepy lyrics, and indulging in some tasteful Purim-esque screaming midway through.

17th annual Mihsihkinaahkwa pow wow August 10-12, 2012 will be held in Mrocshes Park, coibluma City, In. Friday evening gastes open at 5pm with 32 vendors of Native American crafts, products and food. Freewill concert featuring Adam Strack at 7pm. Saturday at 7:30 am Healthy Traditions 5K fun run/walk. At 10am gates open for the pow wow. Soarin’Hawk with birds of prey will be open until 12 noon. Bud Eagle Wolf will play the flute as scheduled. Adam Strack will play as scheduled. We will have a silent auction until 6pm-be sure to bid. Dance time with Native dancers in full regelia is at 1pm and 6:30pm. Vendors will be open all day. Visit the Living Native History with Erik Vosteen as he demonstrates how our ancesotrs made clay pots. Sunday gates open at 10am. Vendors and LivingNative History will be open all day. Dance time is 12 noon. Close at 5pm. $4.00 admission, children under 12 are free. Free parking. Handicap accessible

Throughout the great pattern of things you get an A for effort and hard work. Where you misplaced me was on all the specifics. Nearly missed this. My son entered the world to the Metallica version (thanks, Mr Munday), so I’m very familiar with the original. And I really like this version. Excellent.
PS – no wonder young Munday doesn’t like going to bed…
I always think of the song during early evening children’s TV here, because the intro to the evening program is a long running series of classic 60’s and 70’s GDR puppet clips featuring “The Sandmann” visiting various children around the world and luring them out to watch a TV clip, before strewing sparkly sand in their eyes to make them go to sleep. It’s nicely done and has one of the best-loved themes on German TV but there’s always a slightly menacing undertone, as with many of the best loved pieces of German culture, especially if you’re familiar with E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale of madness and the unconscious in which the eye-stealing ogre was first mentioned.
