Festive ‘Spill, 2023

As you may know, once again, we plan to collect our favourite songs of the year. We don’t have a lot of time, as the plan is to playlist here on The ‘Spill, starting with third choices on Monday, Dec 18, followed by seconds on Weds, Dec 20 & the grand finale of top picks on Fri, Dec 22.

To take part: send mp3s or YouTube links of your 3 choices to this shoemail@cfl.rr.com, along with artist, tune name & ranking (to give me a fighting chance of putting them in the correct list for ‘Spillcast).  Picks are first-come first-served. Any duplicates will be thrown out, but you can have another go to come up with something original.  Any errors & omissions will be blamed on the elves, as usual.

All are welcome to join in and come to the listening party on The ‘Spill.

It’s time once again for our traditional Festive ‘Spill of the best songs of the year:

  1. Choose your 3 favourite tunes from 2022.
  2. Rank them from 3 to 1.
  3. Send these details, along with mp3’s, mp3 links or Youtube links to shoemail@cfl.rr.com.
  4. Wait for confirmation back that your votes have been received (or the crushing disappointment that you need to try again because a tune is already taken).

Results will appear on the ‘Spill in the usual 3 part countdown:

  • Monday, December 19
  • Wednesday, December 21
  • Friday, December 23

Festive ‘Spill – 2021

Here we go again – time for the inevitable, annual Festive ‘Spill. Was there a post-lockdown deluge of new stuff? Was any of it any good? Here’s how we find out:

Select your 3 favourite tunes released in 2021 (or very late 2020).

Rank your picks from three to one

Send these details in an e-mail to shoemail@cfl.rr.com with mp3 links or files for your choices (one e-mail per mp3 file is the best way to get these through). If you don’t like or have mp3s, send a YouTube link & I’ll get the elves a ripping.

First come, first served. If you send in a duplicate you can pick a replacement tune.

The results will be ‘Spillcast as follows:

Friday, December 17 – Third place choices

Sunday, December 19 – Second place

Tuesday, December 21 – The Favourite favourites

That’s only 3 weeks away, so please send in as soon as you can.

Festive ‘Spill, 2020

Well, it’s been quite the year. Will some music help? Possibly.
Here’s what to do to take part in this year’s Festive ‘Spill:

Select your 3 favourite tunes from your lockdown listening that came out in 2020 or too late in 2019 for last year’s picks.

Send mp3 files (one e-mail a time works best for these) or mp3 links to shoemail@cfl.rr.com. If you don’t have mp3s, send a Youtube links & I’ll get the elves to handcraft one. Don’t forget to let me know which are your first, second and third favourites.

You will get confirmation back that your choices are received. If someone beats you to a tune you can pick a replacement. Getting in early is the best way to avoid this faff & also helps me out.

Third choices will be posted on Friday, December 18. Countdown will continue every other day until December 22.

Festive ‘Spill, 2019

Old habits die hard. Who’s up for a Festive ‘Spill of the best songs of 2019?

Here’s what to do:

The tricky part: Select your 3 best tunes of 2019 (or very late 2018) & rank them 3, 2 & 1.

The technical part: Send your mp3s (one at a time to avoid those pesky mail size limits) or mp3 links to shoemail@cfl.rr.com. If you don’t have mp3s send a Youtube link & I’ll get the elves a ripping. Don’t forget to let me know which are your first, second and third favourites.

At some point, you should get confirmation back that your choices are received. If someone beats you to a tune you can pick a replacement.

Results will start on Thursday, December 19.

Festive ‘Spill, 2017

It’s time once again to gather our favourite songs of the year for the annual festive extravaganza.

– Select your 3 best tunes of 2017 (or very late 2016) & rank them (#1 being best of of the best).

– Send your secret ballot, along with mp3’s or mp3 links to shoemail@cfl.rr.com. The ‘Spill jukebox does require to be fed actual mp3’s.

Within a few hours, days or a week, you should get confirmation back that your choices are entered. Vote early to avoid someone beating you to the punch on a preferred pick. Doesn’t happen much due to the power of diversity; if it does you can make a replacement.

All being well, results will be playlisted on the ‘Spill, starting Tuesday, December 19.

Can’t believe this is the 10th time we’ve done this.
